Georgia

High ridges, empty valleys and old stone define this collection from the Georgian Caucasus. Shkhara’s great wall of snow and ice glows at sunset, and a lone Svan tower stands beneath it under a magenta sky. In the Truso Valley, a clear river winds over gravel, a mineral spring stains a turquoise pool orange and the ruins of Zakagori Fortress crown a golden hill under storm clouds, and an abandoned house waits at the foot of autumn slopes. Higher up, a mountain hut sits below Mount Kazbek and the striated ice of the Gergeti Glacier leads toward its rocky summit.

Warm evening light turns the rock faces of Shkhara’s vast snow-and-ice wall orange above shadowed green ridges, with pink cloud drifting at the right.
